How Policy Can Advance Climate Resilience Across Colorado and the Nation

In today’s world, the urgency to address environmental challenges has never been more apparent. The Coalition for a Regenerative Future stands firm in its dedication to lead the charge towards a sustainable and resilient future. Through our climate resilience policy recommendations, we are committed to tackling climate change head-on and fostering a business environment that prioritizes sustainability.

Here’s a breakdown of our key recommendations:

Supporting Community Climate Action Plans

We recognize the importance of empowering local governments to take action against climate change. Increased state support is essential for the development and implementation of effective Community Climate Action Plans that align with Colorado’s GHG Pollution Reduction Roadmap 2.0.

Halting Oil and Gas Expansion

To meet emission reduction goals, we advocate against further expansion of oil and gas development. Our policy recommendations include phasing out new permits for oil and gas development by 2030 and prioritizing renewable energy projects in affected communities.

Implementing Prescribed Fires

Recognizing the benefits of prescribed fires, we support the implementation of key recommendations from the Colorado Prescribed Fire Council Steering Board. This includes increasing funding for fire prevention and control, as well as advocating for liability protection for escaped prescribed fires.

Restructuring the Energy Impact Assistance Fund

We propose restructuring the fund to prioritize climate-focused initiatives such as renewable energy projects, net-zero energy projects and energy efficiency upgrades in government buildings.

Strengthening Emission Reduction Targets

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, we call for more ambitious emission reduction targets, aiming for zero emissions by 2037.

Disaster Preparedness

Emphasizing the need for continued funding and planning resources, we advocate for aligning with federal funding opportunities for disaster preparedness and response, with a focus on climate-related priorities.

These policies not only address current challenges but also pave the way for a sustainable and secure future. Together, let’s build a world that stands resilient against the impacts of climate change!
