DESCRIPTION:Join environmental and consumer advocates to gather in The Alliance Center parking lot on August 7 for a Press Event & Ratepayer Rally! \n \n\nCome to enjoy a cold slushy on a hot day\, help hold a prop for the press program\, and/or to just see what’s going on. \nXcel Energy has asked the Colorado Public Utility Commission (PUC) for permission to dramatically expand its electric generating resources as part of a plan to replace output from its coal-fired power plants and meet new demand from data centers. Unfortunately\, Xcel’s latest proposal has metastasized into an unrecognizable Frankenstein that threatens large rate increases for Coloradans if approved. It is a monster! Xcel’s plan includes proposals to bill consumers for two new slush funds that allow Xcel to spend an unknown – but massive – amount of ratepayer dollars. These bloated funds would give Xcel an uncapped budget to experiment with unproven and costly technologies like nuclear and carbon capture\, as well as new gas equipment that it actually may never use. PUC approval of these funds also would likely result in a significant build-out of new gas plants that will emit hundreds of millions of tons of greenhouse gases and hazardous air pollutants\, precisely at a time when Colorado is trying to cut both. \nSpeakers include:   \n\n\n\nPatricia Nelson\, GreenLatinos\nMeg Reed\, Mountain Mamas\nCouncilmember Katherine Goff\, Northglenn City Council\npotentially more\, so stay tuned!

Together\, we’ll explore how personal and collective narratives fuel systemic transformation\, and we’ll offer practical tools to turn those stories into action. \n  \nStories as Seeds lands at a powerful civic moment\, Colorado’s interim legislative session. Taking public transportation is the most convenient way to access The Alliance Center building. See the last page of this document for light rail routes to and from Union Station. For more information about routes and planning your trip\, check out RTD’s trip planner at rtd-denver.com! \nThere is a parking lot on-site\, where spots can be paid for by the hour. If you are interested in parking in our adjacent lot\, please note that only spots with a green “Pay by Phone” tag are available for public parking. There are two accessible parking spots in this lot with additional room for vehicle accommodations.  \nTo access our parking lot\, enter through the alley between Wynkoop and Wazee streets off of 15th. Enter the building through the front door facing Wynkoop Street. In addition to the adjacent parking lot\, there are street metered parking and parking garages nearby. Please be aware that garage parking fees may run high\, up to $60/ day depending on which garage you park in. \n  \nBuilding Accessibility \nOur front door is accessible via a ramp. These doors can be button-operated and open double-wide to accommodate mobility devices. Elevators are key-card operated and available for use upon request. Staff at the front desk are willing and able to let folks use the elevators as needed. Event space doors open to a 90-degree angle\, but can be made double-wide if needed.  \n  \nBathrooms \nOn the main floor of The Alliance Center building\, there are four restrooms. Closest to the event space\, there are men’s and women’s bathrooms. Around the corner\, there are two gender-neutral restrooms\, one of which is ADA-compliant. On the other floors of the building\, restrooms are only men’s and women’s. This can be changed upon request – we are happy to provide a gender-neutral bathroom sign for any bathroom on any floor with an event. \n  \nHard to Recycle Station \nThe Alliance Center hosts the Hard to Recycle Station\, a community resource that diverts hard-to-recycle items from the landfill by accepting common waste items that standard municipal recycling systems don’t. Working with different recyclers\, we send them to companies and partners who prevent items from going to the landfill. The bill required the Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) to create rules in order to reduce freshwater use and increase the use of recycled produced water in oil and gas operations. Those rules are now expected to be adopted in early 2025. \nJoin us on February 11 at noon for a webinar on produced water where we’ll start with some basics about water in the oil and gas industry.
