SUMMARY:Trees in the West @ CSU Spur Campus | PAID EVENT
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a one-day conference exploring complex and shared sustainability challenges for urban forests in the Western US from diverse perspectives. Connect with your colleagues\, learn from experts\, and share your insights! \n\nWhen: Wednesday\, May 13\, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.\nWhere: CSU Spur\, Denver | 4777 National Western Drive Denver\, CO 80216 \nParticipate in-person or virtually.\nAll-day refreshments and lunch are included with registration.\nGeneral Admission Price: $65\nStudent & Virtual Admission Price: $50 \nGet ticket here! \nEvent Overview \nThroughout history\, trees have been used to make life more comfortable for people living in towns and cities\, and we are still discovering all the ways trees improve people’s lives today. \nIn the Western US\, trees and forests do not naturally thrive in most areas\, and the canopy shading most communities instead shows people’s deep and longstanding affinity for trees. But communities in the West also face unique challenges for growing trees\, including limited water and volatile weather\, and many are concerned about the future of urban forests amid climate shifts and other concerning trends. \nAt Trees in the West\, we explore ways to sustain trees and communities by learning widely from many different people and sources of knowledge. Residents\, practitioners\, policymakers\, scientists\, and others take part in conversations about important issues for urban and community forests in a region with exceptional natural and cultural heritages. \n\n\n2026 Focus: Community Engagement \nEach year\, we will explore a prominent theme in urban forestry. This year’s sessions will explore community engagement in urban forestry. Regardless of your role\, we hope you will join us to learn and contribute your ideas.

SUMMARY:Words Before All Else: The Haudenosaunee Greetings to the Natural World
DESCRIPTION:This program features a beautiful 20-minute film about the traditional prayer\, “Words Before All Else\,” which is central to the spiritual and cultural beliefs of the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee (also known as the Iroquois). Their daily prayer gives thanks to Mother Earth\, Elder Brother Sun\, Grandmother Moon\, water\, animals\, plants\, and all other living things.\nThis film interpretation was produced by Dave Bowden of the Sustainable Media Network\, also CRES’s 2004 president. \nAfter the video\, Martin Ogle\, founder of Geo Sapiens\, will explore how this daily prayer of gratitude inspires and guides our actual work for revitalizing our human relationship with Earth and how energy flows through the web of Life. \nThis event is hosted by the Colorado Renewable Energy Society\, co-sponsored by the Sustainable Media Network and Geo Sapiens. \nJoin us in person at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder (5001 Pennsylvania Ave\, Boulder\, CO 80303). \nRegister here! \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Martin Ogle and Dave Bowden \n\n\n\nMartin Ogle is a naturalist\, energy educator and Earth scientist with a passion for creating a truly green economy. Martin was Chief Naturalist for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority\, 1985 – 2012. In 2012\, he founded Entrepreneurial Earth and\, in 2025\, founded Geo Sapiens which integrates environmental education\, energy education and job readiness. \nDave Bowden led CRES’s successful efforts in 2004 to enact Amendment 37\, Colorado’s renewable energy standard. He has been a TV journalist\, producer and cameraman since 1980\, with employment at the PBS NewsHour and 3 CBS affiliates. Dave is currently directing a series of films about spirit and sustainability.

SUMMARY:Alliance Center Earth Week Event | Songs for a Sacred Earth
DESCRIPTION:Join us during Earth Week for an evening of music\, reflection\, and connection exploring how sound\, spirit\, and story can deepen our relationship with the living world. \nSongs for a Sacred Earth brings together musicians\, teachers\, and practitioners from diverse traditions to share wisdom about ecological responsibility through sacred and expressive cultural forms. Through song and storytelling\, the gathering invites participants to experience climate care not only as policy or practice\, but as relationship\, one rooted in meaning\, resilience\, and collective imagination. \nCo-presented by Colorado Jewish Climate Action\, the Iliff School of Theology\, The Center for Earth Theology\, and the Alliance for Collective Action\, this event is part performance\, part convening space. It is designed to cultivate connection across faith\, spiritual\, and secular communities while strengthening the relational fabric needed to sustain climate work in challenging times. \nHeld during Earth Week — a moment dedicated to honoring and protecting our planet — this gathering asks: \n\nWhat might it sound like to care for Earth together?\nHow can music sustain us in the work of repair?\nWhat becomes possible when sacred wisdom and civic action meet?\n\nParticipants will experience live performances and facilitated moments of reflection in an immersive setting at The Alliance Center\, a hub for collaboration across Colorado’s climate and justice ecosystem. Appetizers and non alcoholic beverages will be shared as we enjoy the work of: \nAysha Durmu\nChinelo Tyler \nEitan Kantor\nEric McEuen\nMorgan Sierra Mae Brown\nReshawn Edison\nNOENEMIES \nWe invite you to come listen\, reflect\, and connect; help us co-create a shared soundtrack for ecological care and collective action. \nWe want this gathering to be accessible to all. Scholarship tickets are available if cost is a barrier\, for students\, or if you need support attending. Please reach out to our Director of Programs\, Jolie\, at jbrawner@afca.earth \nEvent Partners \n\nColorado Jewish Climate Action\nIliff School of Theology\nThe Center for Earth Theology\nAlliance for Collective Action\n\nRegister here!

DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss this vital\, life-giving dialogue during Colorado Climate Week! Dr. Heidi Steltzer\, founder of the Center for Earth Theology\, and Richard Sherman\, founder of Animas and Four Corners Digital\, are co-hosting this session to create space for connection\, meaning-making\, and a new orientation for rural\, urban\, and ancient connectedness. \nAbout the event:\nIn the rural regions of Colorado\, a lot of climate action is taking place. We can’t not do this work. Our livelihoods and well-being depend on it. We talk and act to manage for water availability\, for wildfire risk to our homes\, for dust mitigation and restoring lands\, for alternatives to fossil fuels\, and for protecting places we recreate and hope others will too. \nYet\, the perception is often that folks who live rural don’t yet get climate change. Aren’t taking action. We’d like to suggest that the missing element is relationship. Relationship between urban and rural people in Colorado. Knowing and trusting one another through deep and meaningful connections. What could shift if we invest in this? In people and relationships as we strive for something even better than a less warm planet. As we strive for happiness aka statewide and nationwide flourishing. \nRegister now!
