SUMMARY:Craftivism! Crafting in Community by Women in Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Crafting + Activism. Come create\, color\, write postcards to politicians\, vent\, laugh\, or quietly connect! No supplies or skill needed!\n\n\nIt’s back! (by popular demand). \nJoin Women in Sustainability + Let Em Have It Salon for another night of Craftivism—the joyful\, slightly unhinged intersection of crafting + activism + community therapy. \nThis time we’re leaning all the way into a whimsical reset:\n2026 has been a lot. Traditional resolutions are boring. So we’re starting over with scissors\, stickers\, and a little civic engagement. \nCome make:\n📬 Postcards or letters to politicians (because democracy loves cute stationery)\nBingo cards + punch cards (someone made a whimsy bingo card for themselves\, and we’re so inspired!)\n🎨 And whatever crafty chaos your heart desires \nNo experience needed. No supplies needed. Just show up as you are.\nBring your own project if you want (BYOC forever encouraged). \nLight refreshments will be provided\, along with plenty of laughter\, glue\, and collective catharsis. \n🎟 Tickets are free\, with a suggested $5 donation to Women in Sustainability. \nGet your tickets here! \nCome for the crafts. Stay for the community. Leave with a punch card or valentine and maybe a little more hope. \nWeirdness welcome. Joy is resistance.

SUMMARY:Words Before All Else: The Haudenosaunee Greetings to the Natural World
DESCRIPTION:This program features a beautiful 20-minute film about the traditional prayer\, “Words Before All Else\,” which is central to the spiritual and cultural beliefs of the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee (also known as the Iroquois). Their daily prayer gives thanks to Mother Earth\, Elder Brother Sun\, Grandmother Moon\, water\, animals\, plants\, and all other living things.\nThis film interpretation was produced by Dave Bowden of the Sustainable Media Network\, also CRES’s 2004 president. \nAfter the video\, Martin Ogle\, founder of Geo Sapiens\, will explore how this daily prayer of gratitude inspires and guides our actual work for revitalizing our human relationship with Earth and how energy flows through the web of Life. \nThis event is hosted by the Colorado Renewable Energy Society\, co-sponsored by the Sustainable Media Network and Geo Sapiens. \nJoin us in person at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder (5001 Pennsylvania Ave\, Boulder\, CO 80303). \nRegister here! \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Martin Ogle and Dave Bowden \n\n\n\nMartin Ogle is a naturalist\, energy educator and Earth scientist with a passion for creating a truly green economy. Martin was Chief Naturalist for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority\, 1985 – 2012. In 2012\, he founded Entrepreneurial Earth and\, in 2025\, founded Geo Sapiens which integrates environmental education\, energy education and job readiness. \nDave Bowden led CRES’s successful efforts in 2004 to enact Amendment 37\, Colorado’s renewable energy standard. He has been a TV journalist\, producer and cameraman since 1980\, with employment at the PBS NewsHour and 3 CBS affiliates. Dave is currently directing a series of films about spirit and sustainability.

SUMMARY:Trees in the West @ CSU Spur Campus | PAID EVENT
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a one-day conference exploring complex and shared sustainability challenges for urban forests in the Western US from diverse perspectives. Connect with your colleagues\, learn from experts\, and share your insights! \n\nWhen: Wednesday\, May 13\, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.\nWhere: CSU Spur\, Denver | 4777 National Western Drive Denver\, CO 80216 \nParticipate in-person or virtually.\nAll-day refreshments and lunch are included with registration.\nGeneral Admission Price: $65\nStudent & Virtual Admission Price: $50 \nGet ticket here! \nEvent Overview \nThroughout history\, trees have been used to make life more comfortable for people living in towns and cities\, and we are still discovering all the ways trees improve people’s lives today. \nIn the Western US\, trees and forests do not naturally thrive in most areas\, and the canopy shading most communities instead shows people’s deep and longstanding affinity for trees. But communities in the West also face unique challenges for growing trees\, including limited water and volatile weather\, and many are concerned about the future of urban forests amid climate shifts and other concerning trends. \nAt Trees in the West\, we explore ways to sustain trees and communities by learning widely from many different people and sources of knowledge. Residents\, practitioners\, policymakers\, scientists\, and others take part in conversations about important issues for urban and community forests in a region with exceptional natural and cultural heritages. \n\n\n2026 Focus: Community Engagement \nEach year\, we will explore a prominent theme in urban forestry. This year’s sessions will explore community engagement in urban forestry. Regardless of your role\, we hope you will join us to learn and contribute your ideas.
